Australian Artist: CJ Hendry- Pen on Paper
Armed with only paper and pen, CJ creates magnificent, photorealistic black-and-white images in large format. Her common subjects include high-end fashion objects, such as a Hermes scarf or a Louis Vuitton horse head, but they can also be other inanimate objects including sculls and guns. Finishing one drawing can span for hours, days, weeks and even months to finish. The details are overwhelming and sometimes they seem to be more real than the actual photographs of her source material.
By using items which seduce consumers and inspire fashion choices, CJ in turn makes them more seductive through her large-scale, pen and ink renderings of them, stating “It is all about the object. I am a product person and that is obvious through my obsession with the particular placement of each piece. It starts with the acquisition of the product I am intrigued by or have been obsessing over.”
