 Permanant Part Time Ethics And Sustainability Coordinator

Elk is on a journey which aims to continually monitor, improve and assess policies, procedures and positioning in regards to the companies ethical and sustainable practices. Much work has been done however there is a great deal ahead of us to work on our public profile, community messaging, supply chain managements and policy documentation.

This is a role which will work with both internal and external teams and will influence the overall management of this newly formalized segment of the company. It is a proactive and creative position where a lateral approach to thinking is key.


  • Minimum two years experience in a similar role 
  • Excellent research and communication skills
  • Experience in policy and document writing  
  • Experience in dealing with offshore suppliers
  • Experience in or a sound understanding of sustainable business practices
  • An understanding of the fashion industry, manufacturing and fabric knowledge
  • A creative, lateral approach to work and excellent problem solving skills


This role requires you to monitor, update and assess as required in accordance to Elk’s requirements, laws and current standards.

  • Environmental policy development to be signed by Elk’s founders
  • Establishment of Elk’s Company Mission statement around social and environmental objectives
  • To be abreast of best practice and most up to date information, policies or trends to inform this area of Elk’s business
  • To consider Elk’s own certification and consider new opportunities such as Fair Trade etc


  • Creation of internal code of conduct which require assessment and development recommendations in regards to workplace policies and procedures around employee health and well being
  • Management, documentation and ongoing assessment of internal policies and procedures for best practice facilities management, consumables, recycling/wastage procedures, business practices and reduction of Elk’s environmental footprint as a result of day to day operation
  • Creating and setting organisation wide KPI’s for social and environmental objectives
  • Development of a code of ethics for employees and business partners for anti-corruption, fraud and bribery which is to include a whistleblowing procedure
  • Conduct employee workshops and training to teach company sustainability and objectives
  • Work with Elk’s HR manager to create and update as required the company Employee Handbook with sustainability and ethical objectives and commitments
  • Manage relationships with charity partners and assist in the management of one off projects (eg Guide Dogs) in both the retail and wholesale environment


  • Map current supply chain with each vendor to understand the material impact of each product to consider improvements
  • Work on vendor transparency and monitor certification/compliance to bring all up to date and work with them to ensure areas of suggested improvements are carried through
  • Develop a formal policy for charitable donations
  • In consultation with HR and Elk management create a leave entitlement policy for volunteering
  • Identification of external partners with whom Elk can make broader social and environmental improvements within the industry
  • Development of a supplier procurement policy which will include a set of screening requirements for new suppliers covering social and environmental considerations
  • Creation of a stakeholder map listing internal and external stakeholders including a system to track topics, concerns or actionable issues. This includes the creation of a geographic map.
  • Creation and management of a chemical management plan

This role will work closely with many departments in Elk. In regards to community management this will be covered by the marketing department however this role will inform necessary information.

  • Identify partners with Marketing for possible collaborative collections with other business’ focusing on social or economic problems
  • Research and identify new suppliers both domestically and internationally to work with either for product production or philanthropic work who have socially or ethically conscious productions such as women’s groups etc
  • Create a list of independent stockist initiatives to understand ways Elk can assist or positively impact or extend on these individually led strategies or partnerships

 Permanent Part Time Assistant Store Manager, Preston

 Melbourne based brand Elk, are looking for an experienced Assistant Store Manager to join our Preston store.

 We are looking for an enthusiastic team player who wants to become an Elk brand ambassador through exceptional customer service, impeccable presentation and their in-depth product knowledge. You should enjoy managing and developing a team to enable them to achieve the company’s vision and values while providing an enjoyable workplace. You will have a positive energetic attitude, a passion for visual merchandising and a deep understanding of the Elk aesthetic.

The ideal candidate will be someone who has:
• Retail Management experience
• Excellent customer service skills and a natural ability to relate with others
• The ability to use your own initiative and is happy working in a team or autonomously.
• Outstanding communication skills
This is a permanent part time roll (4 days) with a rotating roster.
